iNSPIRATION
The timeless rhythm of Australian Aboriginal art was my inspiration for making this backlit mosaic lamp. In Spirit Tracks, I sought to capture the invisible pathways that connect the human spirit to the ancient and the eternal. Inspired by the Aboriginal songlines — sacred journeys traced across the land by ancestral beings — this mosaic translates that sense of movement and memory into a language of light. The flowing forms and rhythmic patterns are not meant to depict, but to evoke — to let the eye travel as the soul does, without boundary or direction, guided only by inner rhythm. When illuminated, the work becomes almost meditative, its gentle radiance carrying a quiet energy that invites reflection and stillness. For me, Spirit Tracks is a homage to continuity — to the unseen forces that guide life’s passage and remind us that every journey, however small, is part of a much larger story.

eXPRESSION
Spirit Tracks is built upon the ancient principles of andamento — the flowing rhythm that guides the placement of every tesserae. The lines, curves, and concentric movements are deliberate, creating a visual pulse that mirrors the inner rhythm of nature and spirit. The interplay of materials — marble, ceramic, and luminous glass — symbolizes the meeting of earth and light, the physical and the transcendental.
The use of subtle tonal gradations and gentle spacing allows light to breathe between the tesserae, giving the surface a living quality. Every fragment carries symbolic intent: the curved lines suggest movement and transformation, while circular patterns speak of wholeness, continuity, and the eternal cycle of creation. Together, technique and symbolism unite to form a visual language of stillness as well as flow — a meditative balance between the ancient and the contemporary, the material and the spiritual.
I mirrored the concept of Dreamtime – shedding light on the journey of the soul through life - by illuminating the mosaic from within. This mosaic breathes from within — the light softly tracing the language of the ancients, inviting reflection and calm. Each concentric line and curve becomes a whisper of continuity, a reminder that energy never ceases, only transforms. I was attracted to the mosaic’s tranquillity and radiance, as it connects the viewer to something enduring — the pulse of the earth, the breath of the ancestors and the eternal flow of life itself.
