iNSPIRATION
In 2005, as I walked to work through the Nariman Point area of Mumbai, I became aware of an invisible rhythm — the heartbeat of countless lives rising and converging. I saw people striving toward achieving their dreams, their energies overlapping like the flow of light and sound. The more I observed, the more I felt that the city itself was alive — its pulse quickening with ambition, struggle, and hope.
I was inspired to capture this rhythm in mosaic — to transform the invisible energy of human aspiration into colour and form. Thus, The Pulse of Aspiration was born. The mosaic is a meditation on the human spirit — on the beauty of striving, and the luminous joy that emerges when we rise beyond struggle into fulfilment.
I sought to capture the unseen current of the city, transforming it into colour, form, and vibration. The mosaic unfolds like a living city, seen from above — a landscape of ambition, movement, and renewal. Here, I sought to merge the rhythm of human emotion with the geometry of the city. Mirroring the human journey within the urban expanse — from the grounded struggle of effort to the luminous ascent of fulfilment. Through its shifting hues and layered textures, The Pulse of Aspiration tries to evoke a living city that breathes through its people — a place where striving becomes rhythm, and rhythm becomes light.

eXPRESSION
The Pulse of Aspiration builds its energy through repetition, a visual crescendo that mirrors the disciplined persistence of human striving. It feels almost molten — like energy contained but ready to rise.
The composition is dominated by a singular radiant red circle, pulsing like a solar core or a living heart. The slightly irregular circle, enclosing the red core, is vibrant but not symmetrical — giving the cityscape a pulse rather than a pattern, a visual metaphor for the driving human impulse that strives to create. The core is surrounded by concentric circles in vibrant colours, representing the continued human strife. The texture of the tesserae here is a composite of densely packed glass, marble and smalti. Each refracts light both intensely and differently, thus embodying both vitality and tension. The alternation of smooth and jagged tesserae creates an almost percussive rhythm — like a visualised musical syncopation. Ambition itself is vibrating — uneven, human, yet full of life.
Below, blocks of colour form playful architectural grids, suggesting a city alive with individuality rather than uniformity. These architectural blocks at the base, with their shifting perspectives and vibrant hues, echo Hundertwasser’s fascination with cities as expressions of emotion rather than architecture alone. The juxtaposition of structured linearity and spontaneous curvature symbolises the dual nature of urban life — discipline and dream, structure and freedom. A metaphor for the way ambition shapes the city’s spirit. Their shimmering tesserae in pinks, violets, and metallic tones elicit the density and diversity of urban life — a web of individual stories, all connected by the shared rhythm of hope and effort.
On the top right, pale streams of white and green lift out of the composition, suggesting the aspirational movement rising toward success — the city’s collective energy channelled into a single upward surge. Scattered squares of red and gold glint within the flow, symbolising the sparks of achievement and fulfilment that arise from persistence and struggle. The glass here is translucent, with smoother edges and looser spacing, allowing light to breathe through the surface. This portion of the mosaic feels like momentum turned ethereal — the moment when ambition transcends struggle and heads towards achievement.
