WHEN GALAXIES EMBRACE
In the meeting of galaxies, silence turns radiant

iNSPIRATION
When Galaxies Embrace was born from the breath-taking realization that even galaxies — vast islands of stars — are not still, but forever in motion. In time, our Milky Way will collide and merge with the smaller Andromeda galaxy, a cosmic embrace that will give birth to a grander galaxy. To me, this revelation was staggering: for billions of years, countless smaller galaxies have been colliding, merging, and transforming, shaping the universe we see today. In this mosaic series, I seek to capture not only the vibrant spectacle of this eternal dance, but also the wonder and joy of knowing that creation itself continues in cycles of transformation far beyond our imagination.

And the first clue to this grand, ongoing creation lies in colour—the pulse of youth and the glow of age across the cosmos.
Like in art, in nature too, colour is of consequence. A galaxy’s colour is a direct indicator of its current star-forming activity. The younger hotter galaxies, emit blue light, and are characterized by ongoing, active star formation activity. In my mosaic, these younger galaxies are represented by different shades of blue tiles. The older, cooler galaxies emit reddish-orangish light. These are represented by orangish tiles. This mosaic is an illustration of the younger galaxies, moving on a collision path towards an older, cooler galaxy in the center of the mosaic.
Each circular representation of a galaxy is shown through sliced bands of colour. These colours range from deep violets and indigos to greens and coral tones. They represent distinct galactic formations, each radiating its own spectrum of energy. By subtly overlapping these chromatic arcs, I have conveyed the collision and merging of galaxies, where new stars and worlds are born from cosmic union.
The silver tesserae (mirror glass), laid in swirling currents - in the inner core of galaxies, evoke the gravitational pull of galaxies towards each other. Also representing the rotational movement of galaxies as they move closer together. Notice how the silver mirrored tesserae has been hand cut in slanting lines and fixed in an arc formation, to represent the rotation of the galaxy. The interplay of iridescent glass and silver mirrored tesserae (on the outer edges of galaxies) enhances the sense of infinite depth of the Universe and its shifting light, echoing the vast, ever-evolving fabric of life. The result is a visual metaphor for a universe whose forces—gravity, rotation, and light—are inseparable from the very rhythm of life.
From their luminous collisions, the oldest light and the youngest fire become one new sky.
