iNSPIRATION

The idea for The Sacred Wheel of Sutras was born from the memory of prayer wheels in Rumtek monastery - a Tibetan-Buddhist monastery —near Gangtok.  I remember turning a prayer wheel, and feeling  the vibrations of that single turn. Moreover, I was struck by the fact that a momentum given to a single prayer wheel, rippled over to the adjacent linked wheels, and they moved in unison: revealing how every action we take, ripples outward. A sutra of distilled wisdom – holding a deepest truth in a simplest form.

In The Sacred Wheel of Sutras, I turned to the lotus, a deeply spiritual flower in India, to carry that same sense of upliftment and connection. Each mosaic lotus is linked through a subtle spiral, suggesting that every prayer and every action sends out its own vibration. They rise, they meet, they echo one another. Together, they remind us that nothing we think, speak, or do stands independently — each word and gesture amplifies the next, weaving the very pattern of our belief and our becoming. A poignant sutra.

eXPRESSION

In The Sacred Wheel of Sutras,  the red background becomes the karmic field — the dynamic backdrop where actions, choices, and consequences not only unfold but also interconnect. It is the vast landscape where the lotus-wheels, representing each action,  revolve and interact.

The multiple sparkling white terrains are the sacred spaces of stillness in which each lotus unfolds and blooms. Giving them the clarity amid which decisions are made and actions begin. The multi-coloured radiant spokes of each lotus create a sense of motion — seemingly self-contained, yet influencing the larger rhythm of life.

A silver-and-gold spiral threads its way through each lotus in the composition. This spiral has been mindfully created through the deliberate placement of metallic tesserae, its juxtaposition against the red and white field making the form distinctly visible. This luminous pathway visually links one lotus to the next, much like beads strung along a continuous thread. One action influencing the next.

Through this unifying spiral, the mosaic expresses a universal truth: that nothing exists in isolation, that every action and choice flows into the next. It becomes a meditation on interconnectedness—a gentle reflection of karma—where each lotus influences the other, shaping a unified field of energy and intention.

The Sacred Wheel of Sutras is a reminder that our lives also unfold through subtle connections, each action shaping the next in an ever-evolving continuum.
